Think and Grow Rich!
by Napoleon Hill
Think and Grow Rich! is one of the most widely read and important motivational books ever written. Written by the American author Napoleon Hill, it is one of the first examples of the now popular 'personal success' genre of popular books.
However, this famous book could not have been written without the support and insistence of one person, Andrew Carnegie.
Think and Grow Rich! was inspired by Andrew Carnegie, a Scottish-American industrialist, businessman, philanthropist, and the founder of the Carnegie Steel Company which later became U.S. Carnegie He came from a poor background, and had massive ambition, and strongly believed in effort and continual self-improvement. A 'self-made man', he started his working life as a telegraph messenger boy, while continually devouring books to build his understandings of life. With a charming character and an ability to easily make friends, his hard working attitude got noticed and through his life he was able to enjoy the help and advice of many mentors.
A keen writer, Andrew Carnegie himself published wrote many articles on the subject of wealth and improvement. Here is a quote from a memo e made to himself which goes some way to explaining his philosophy:
"Man does not live by bread alone. I have known millionaires starving for lack of the nutriment which alone can sustain all that is human in man, and I know workmen, and many so-called poor men, who revel in luxuries beyond the power of those millionaires to reach. It is the mind that makes the body rich. There is no class so pitiably wretched as that which possesses money and nothing else. Money can only be the useful drudge of things immeasurably higher than itself. Exalted beyond this, as it sometimes is, it remains Caliban still and still plays the beast. My aspirations take a higher flight. Mine be it to have contributed to the enlightenment and the joys of the mind, to the things of the spirit, to all that tends to bring into the lives of the toilers of Pittsburgh sweetness and light. I hold this the noblest possible use of wealth."
Carnegie was of the belief that achieving financial success could be reduced to a straightforward and simple formula. A formula that then could be 'modeled' by others, to benefit not only themselves, but if they were following it correctly, the community. In 1908, he commissioned (at no pay) Napoleon Hill, who was then a journalist, to interview more than 500 high and wealthy achievers to find out the commonalties of their success - what was it that they had in common which caused them to be successful?
Twenty years later, with Hill now more than a freelance employee but a co-author, the work was published - 'The Laws of Success". This was the work on which "Think and Grow Rich!" was based, and fine tunes "The Laws of Success's" 15 'success laws', into 13 tighter and clearer principles on how to achieve personal success.
Both author's principles are firmly embedded in these works, with an emphasis on determination, faith and desire being cornerstones that help to take one forward.
Hill in his introduction to the book refers to the "Carnegie Secret", a conception which he reports is the foundation of all success and appears to be the premise of the book. Hill promises to indirectly describe this "secret" in every chapter, but never state it plainly, believing the use of the secret is only available to those who possess a "readiness" for it, a disposition Hill describes as essential to the concept itself.
Think and Grow Rich! has never been out of print since it was first published, and is believed to have sold more than 30 million copies!
Enjoy some words from Napoleon Hill:
" Whatever the mind of man can conceive and believe, it can achieve."
" Desire is the starting point of all achievement, not a hope, not a wish, but a keen pulsating desire which transcends everything."
" Your big opportunity may be right where you are now."
" If you cannot do great things, do small things in a great way. "
" A goal is a dream with a deadline. "
" Lack of loyalty is one of the major causes of failure in every walk in life. "
" Perseverance: The majority of men meet with failure because of their lack of persistence in creating new plans to take the place of those who fail."
" What you think, so you will become."
" Every adversity carries with it the seed of an equivalent or greater benefit."
" Thoughts mixed with definiteness of purpose, persistence, and a burning desire are powerful things."

If you expect life's rewards to suddenly appear on a plate in front of you with no effort ... this is not the book for you! (and good luck, as you're in for a long wait!)

This book is changing my thinking. One thing I have learnt is that whatever I set myself to do, I can, regardless of the hurdles. There is a way and I can find it if I don't give up.
The second one that has really touched me is the issue of setting personal goals, writing them down, and going through it till it sticks to my mind. This will cause me to 'see' and catch so to speak, what needs to make that thing come to be when an opportunity shows itself, and that will get me on the road to bettering my life - Thinking and growing to wealth creation.

It is good to have this option but considering the time and work that one needs to put into downloading every chapter, maybe the price should be a little more comfortable for the buyer. At least that is what I will consider (together with the benefits) in my next purchase.

Hi Javier,
Yes, you're correct - downloading all the files can be a pain on a slow computer ... which is why I am going to offer 'Think & Grow Rich!' audio set on CD shortly (though it will have to be a bit more expensive to cover the extra costs).
I will be emailing all download customers when the CD version is available to offer them the CD for a small upgrade fee.
Kind regards,
Vic
