Self-Improvement Balancing Act ...
Focusing too far in one direction can be as bad as doing nothing. The measure of your effort balanced against your 'whole self' is one key to enjoying and sustaining true balance, harmony and happiness. Yes, focus strong effort on the 'worthy' goals, while remembering and making note of all your needs ...
We all strive for self improvement. If our finances are out of whack we try to tackle the problem. Or if our weight has crept up we look for a diet to whittle it back down. Personal relationships or work problems are other common areas people would like improved. While there is nothing “wrong” with focusing on one area in your life for self-improvement, it just may not be the best solution. If you are looking for a long-term solution, often times taking a more holistic approach will help you achieve your self-improvement goals.
Balance in life can be easily dismissed. If someone has a thriving career they are a success, right? Not necessarily so. It is easy to get caught-up in having the best this and that, but when we ponder what truly makes one successful, we may end-up with a different answer than one we have always believed. Is that career executive truly a success if their family is neglected? What about the dedicated house wife who has no regard to the environment? Also, can you sincerely call yourself successful if you disregard yourself and find your health failing? This set of questions and other like them will help one to determine the overall condition of their lives. You will then be more able to accurately determine in which areas you need a little self-improvement. The holistic self-improvement approach leads one to have a more balanced, well-rounded healthy lifestyle, which ultimately improves the lives of everyone around us.
Holistic self-improvement leads to not only enhancing our own lives, but those around us and ultimately the planet. Improvements made with the big picture in mind will always make the biggest impact. Currently our planet limps along with air, water and other environmental pollutions. Influential people have not helped progress the challenge to address current climate changes, disappearing river beds and the contamination of our earth. Not too mention our unbridled energy consumption and its impending negative impact. With the holistic self-improvement approach, planet neglect is unacceptable. If we truly keep the “big picture” in mind, then we will notice how our lives effect Earth and ultimately come back to effect us. When diagnosing areas for self-improvement remember “balance.” The key is to have harmony between our careers, home life, finances and health. Bringing these areas into balance will make you truly successful.

... as long as what you are doing is making you and those around you truly happy.
So much motivation talk these days is focused on success/winning at all costs, without checking that what it is you are doing is 'right' ... is 'best'.
Some times 'quitting' is the right thing to do ...
Oh, the paradox of life, motivation & self-improvement! ;-)
