Be your own personal success coach - Part Three
Writing down goals and taking action on them is just part of the puzzle. Life doesn't always work out the way that we want it to. We have to deal with disappointment, change and unavoidable circumstances. Whether the failure is big or small, it's important to deal with it correctly in order to continue your path to success.
Staying On Track
It can be easy to get discouraged if things don't turn out the way that you'd like them to. You may miss a goal deadline, or achieve less stellar results than you thought you would. You could even get completely knocked off course by an unforeseen event.
The first thing to remember is that it's okay. It happens to everyone. What matters now are your actions from here on out.
Part of your job of being your own personal success coach will be picking yourself up off the floor, and starting again. When you have a bump in the road to success, it is vital that you keep going. Everyone who has achieved success has failed along their path. Each failure puts you closer to your goal, but only if you keep going.
You may have an "inner critic" that tells you once you've failed, you can't go on. This "critic" is just a result of negative thinking patterns. You've got to be strong enough to tell the critic to hush up, and move on.
Planning for the Future
Once you've had a minor setback, or a major one, it's time to reprioritize. Was the setback due to things out of your control? Or did you need more information or time to make your plan work? Are you still happy with your goals? Are you happy with the process?
As you coach yourself to success, remember to keep your happiness and fulfillment at the top of your priorities. Play up your strengths and try to minimize the impact of your weaknesses. Plan your goals so they can be achieved in small chunks. Re-evaluate your plan if you hit a bump in the road. And most importantly, encourage yourself to keep going.
Now go do something!
