Review of the Master Key System by Charles F. Haanel

Believers in the power of the mind will enjoy this course. Charles F. Haanel offers you clear, concise and formulated instructions on creating your 'achievement mind'. 'The Master Key System' promotes the belief that we already own the rights to achieve our dreams, and Mr Haanel's purpose in this course is to remind us of the tools that we all have at our disposal to live them.
Originally printed as a 24 part course back in 1912, it had sold over 200,000 copies by 1933. Having been 'lost' for nearly 50 years (the Church had disagreed with his point of view and banned it), it is now finally available as a complete book.
Now having been conceived as a course, being available now as one book has it's challenges. Some people may feel somewhat overloaded in information, or tempted to read sections out of order. However the small amount of self-discipline needed to read each part in turn should be easy to find, giving you the most benefit from this great work.
Charles F. Haanel was a noted American author and businessman who wrote several books which were published in St. Louis by Psychology Publishing and by his Master Key Institute in New York. Mr. Haanel put into his books the ideas and methods he used to gain his success (he started his own company which eventually became one of the largest conglomerates of his time). Besides the "Master Key System," which he wrote in 1912, he also wrote "Mental Chemistry" and "The New Psychology".
Each of the 24 sections starts with a summary followed by concise numbered lessons, the section ending with study questions and answers. Sounds like hard work? Actually I found it to be a very powerful way of getting the information across, reinforcing all at once each point and making it easier for my gray matter to remember it all.
Does it live up to it's title though? If you believe that what you get out of life equates to what you put in, then The Master Key System certainly delivers, easily giving you lessons to think on and develop for each day.
Remembering that this was written in 1912, some may sometimes find it to be an intense read - but generally I found this 90+ year old use of the English language elegant and focused.
For me the strongest message came in part eight - a Sanskrit quote:
Look to this Day
For it is Life, the very Life of Life.
In its brief course lie all the Veritis and
Realities of your existence;
The Bliss of Growth;
The Glory of Action:
The Splendor of Beauty;
For Yesterday is but a Dream,
And Tomorrow is only a Vision:
But Today well lived makes every
Yesterday a Dream of Happiness, and
Every Tomorrow a Vision of Hope.
Look well, therefore, to this Day!
If you are going to do it - Do It Now!
With many quotes throughout the course, this one meant the most for me - perhaps a hint at what I should be concentrating on right now...
If you believe that you are responsible for your own actions, and that the key to great action is a focused mind, then this course will offer you a wealth of information and food for thought, even acknowledging the hundred year old English.
